The Minister of Finance, H011. Walter Nash, will lead the New Zealand delegation to the South Seas conferenee, beginning in Canberra on January 28 Two members of the Wellington Meteorological Office, Dr. M. A. F. Barnett, director, and Mr. J. F. Gabites, oflicer in charge of forecasting, will attend the regional meeting of the International Meteorological Organisation at Melbourne on January 21. / Mr. A. E. Tarrant, of Wellington, immediate past president of the New Zealand Junior Chamber of Commerce, has been dppointed by the Junior Chamber International as assistant seeretary-general for the area of Asia and the South Pacific. The appointment has been announeed by the seeretary-general at Panama". The 'death has oeeurred at Gisborne of Mr. V. P. Boot, the Empire Games mile champion and outstanding New Zealand track • athlete, who has lately been empl'.yed with the Department of Agriculture in Gisborne. Mr. Boot died under an anaesthetic while undergoing a dental opiration in a private hospital.
