The appointment has been announeed by the seeretary-general at Panama". The 'death has oeeurred at Gisborne of Mr. V. P. Boot, the Empire Games mile champion and outstanding New Zealand track • athlete, who has lately been empl'.yed with the Department of Agriculture in Gisborne. Mr. Boot died under an anaesthetic while undergoing a dental opiration in a private hospital.
