SCOTS' NIGHT OUT
VISITING PIPER HONOURED 4 Scottish atmosphere prevailed at the OddfellowS' Hali,' Levin, last. night, when the Horowhenua Pipe Band, their friends, and a large representation of the Scottish community of the district met to honour the well-known champion pipdr, Mr. A. McMillan, of Dunedin, and his wife. Mr. and Mrs. McMillan are the' guests of Mr. • F. O. He has been Dominion champion in ah classes of piping on many occasions and is regarded as one of the best New Zealand has produced. During the evening Mr. McMillan rendered several numbers, outstanding among these heing the march, "Inverness Gathering," hornpipe, "Banjo Breakdown," and the hymn, "Holy City," a difficult number rarely attempted on the pipes. When welcoming Mr. and Mrs. McMillan, Mr. J. A. Goodwin, seeretary of the Horowhenua Scottisb Society, said it was a pity there were not more gatherings of that type. He hoped that Mr. and Mrs. McMillan would, like many others domiciled in the South Island, eventually migrate North and stay there. He thanked those members of the band who had arranged the gathering. The society were alw'ays giad to honour such visitors, but was not always in the position to do so, as it was not so closely in touch with them as the band. He trusted Mr. and Mrs. McMillan would aga;n visit Levin. Mr. McMillan suitably replied. The remainder of the evening was confined to dancins.
