GASWORKERS ADVISED TO RESUME
STRIKERS PLACED IN
AWKWARD POSITION Reeeived Tuesday, 11.47 p.m. MBLBOURNE, Jan. 14. When the Federal Council of the Gas Employees Union met this morning they decided to advise the striking gasworkers to resume and allow their unsettled claims to be decided by the Arbitration Coiirt. The decision was made in the face of much opposition by delegat.es from the various St..at.es; but an agreement w^as filia% t'eached in view of the insistence of this course by the Aust'ralasian Council of Trades Unions, the governing body oi' Ihe Australian iudustrial Labour inovenient. If the gas strikers at the mass meetings called for tomorrow rejeet the resumption advice they will have to rely 011 whatever support may be l'orthcoming from individual unions because the A.C.T.U. might withdraw from the dispufe. I11 that case the strikers would automatically lose the support of. the union movemcnt. If the men decide tomorrow to resume it is hoped that a rationed supply of gas will be available tomorrow.
