The formation of a gun-dog club in the Horowhenua .district was the outcome of a meeting held ih Levin last night by a small but enthusiasCiC group of sportsmen. The club is to be known as the Horowhenua Gun-Do'g Club, and it is iritended to stage a field trial in the neai future when birds and grounds have been acquired, Mr. A. -Joblin, an experienced gun-dog worker, stated in a shori address that the trials were run by sportsmen with their averagt priced shooting dogs, and were nol confined to sportsmen who had any amount of leisure time. The. trials were anmxcellent opportunity for a sportsman to promote and enjoy a fine sport, where the' spirit oi sportsmanship ruled', and at the same time provide an opportunity to improve his shooting dog. Mr. Joblin continued by saying that he had contacted several lahd-owners who had suitable gtounds for the trials, ahd these lahd-owners had willingly cooperated. The speaker then pointed out that the area in the vicinity of the old E.P.S. bridge on Gladstone Road was an ideal position, as it contained practically all the requirements of a suitable grouild. The election of. officers for the first term resulted as follows;— Patron : Mr. J. P. Connell; president: Dr. E. T. G. Miller;- vicepresidents : Messrs. A. Joblin and C. B. Greenaway; secretary: Mr. W. Orquhart; treasurer: Mr. T. McGuire; working committee: Messrs G. Cooper, C. B. Greenaway, A. Haley, A. Joblin, L. G. Bismark, C. Christensen, J. Connell, W. Hrquhart and T. McGuire and Dr. E. T. G. Miller; grounds committee: Messrs. Joblin and Haley and Dr. Miller; .birds sub - committee: Messrs. McGuire and Bismark; hon. solicitore: Messrs. Blenkhorn and Todd; hon. veterinarian : Mr. R Long. It was decided to affiliate with the New Zeaiand gun-dog trials executive and that the subscription fees be 10s. The club will hold its next meeting at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February i.
