JANUARY MEETING HELD A general meeting of the Shannon branch of the Returned Services' Association. was held in Laurvig's Hall on Saturday evenmg, ivir. R. L. Quinlan occupied the chair and the following members were present: Messrs. H, D. Aitchison, C. Guerin, T. S. Downes, J. H. Sinclair, D. J. Richardson, J. M. Kenny, R. M.. Lange, E. Allen, J. Ritchie, E. E. Morris, O. H. Tippler, S: J. Spencer, R. Higgott, D. Purcell. and E. J. Gunning. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. S. W. Barber, R. Hook and V. J. Bateman. A welcome was extehded to Messrs.- E. Allen and J. M. Kenny, two new members. The secretary (Mr. E. J. Gunning) advised that the roll membership now stood at 233, being made up of 187 Shannon members and 46 from Tokomaru. Financial members totalled 213,- of which 140 were World War II men. The secretary also advised that there were 13 unfinancial members of the Shan- . non branch and five from Tokomaru. It was decided that the secretary should advise those members whose subscriptions were two years or more in arrears, pointing out that the amount of 2s 6d in each subscription went to pay for Raview, and ask that if those members still wished to receive their copies of Review they send their subscriptions to the secretary as soon as possible. It was noted that N. A. Pricr, H. Hikamate and J. Jones were Shannon members who were at present in hospital. Following on the discussion on the food for Britain parcels held over from the last general meeting, it was dccided that after receipt of the namcs of needy ex-servicemen, a combined meeting of the branch and the Women 's Section would be held to go into the matter of forwarding the parcels and arranging finance. The secretary advised xthat condolence with Mrs.- A. Clayton- and family had been expressed, and on the motion of Mr. C. Guerin the secretary's actiori'was endorsed. At the completion of business the members were entertained og the members of the Women's Section at s upper.
