HALL SHIELD CRICKET
RESULTS OF SATURDAY' S GAMES The ninth series of games in the Horowhenua Cricket Association's Hall Shield competition were played on Saturday in good cricketing weather and several surprise results were witnessed. Otaki A Trouiice Old Boys Old Boys, severely handicapped by the loss of two of their best batsmen, were completely outclaSsed by Otaki A when playing at Otaki. Old Boys batted "first and scored 60 runs, Juno (17) and Judd (14) being the only double-figure scorers. The low scoring of Old Boys was du.e to .the excellent bowling of Heatherwick and Morton, who both returned the figures of five wickets for 25 runs. Herb Rice added a further century to his collection hy making .a praiseworthy 111 (not out) for Otaki, and his team declared with three wickets down for 180 runs. Stevens took two wickets for 57. In their second innings Old Boys had added a further 88 runs, with four batsmen out, when time was calledA. Walker contribiited 26 runs to this total. Garrity captured three wipkets at low cost. Weraroa Account for Otaki B Thd superior Weraroa eleven defeated Otaki B comfortably when playing in Levin. Otaki went to the wicket first and compiled 58 runs before being dismissed, Ryder (18) and Arnold (11) being the top scorers. Gurney took three wickets for seven runs. Weraroa replied with 179, of which Wallace contributed 52 and Saunders 31. Arnold returned the best figures oi the Otaki bowlers with five wickets for 49.
