Braving swiftJy flowing tidos and formidablc ocean surges, an Auckland party has made sncce'ssful landings oti several of the steep cliifed islands ot the Three Kings (troup, whk-h lie neaily 40 niiles northwest pf the northernniQst poiut of the Nortli Island. JUenibei's of "the. .party believe that twu of their landings were the first ever niacle by Europeans. The party left Auckland on New; Year's Day hy the vaclit, Rosemary. The' leader Avas kla.jor M . E. .Tohnson, of Auckland, owner of the Rosemary, and an experienced yaehtsman. Other memliers were ilajor Ci. A. Buddle, and Mr. M. Clreen, of Auckland, and Mr. E. Beaver, of Wanganui. Major Buddle, wlio was making the trip on behalf of the Auckland Museum, to study bird and plant life, was in charge of the seientihc work. %Two -members of the expedition landed on the northeast King, and on Prince-s Tsland, on neither of which ,as far as is known, Europeans have previously set foot. Landings were also made on the Great King, the principal island of the group and on the southAvest island. The party made no attempt to land on the West King, and, eontrary to previous reports, had no intcntion of doing so. The Rosemary arrived at Mangonui todavr whcre slie will remain three uavs. She will call. at various islands off the northern eoast during her voyage home, and is not expected to reach Auckland for a week to 10 davs.
