OTAKI CLUB'S SPORTS Evening. sports were held on tl*3 Otaki Domairi on Wednesday, when there was a large gathering. Racing was of a most interesting nature, there' bemv several close finishes. Chief among the items were wrestling bouts, voung and middle-aged *taking part to the^enjoyment of all present.' The management,' as usual, was very 'satisfactory, but the slowness of competitors in getting on their marks was pronounced, and those competing would do well to be more prompt. This applies chiefly to the runners. Results: — .. . / . x Hif-mile cycle.— Blomfleld (scrj 1, lfarley (55yds) 2, Mathie (35yds) 3. Also started: Milroy (60yds) and Mudgway ) 60yds). Mathie, Hurley and Milroy led the field for some distance, while in the finishing stages Blomfleld nut in a sprint 200 yards from the tape to conie away, but only 'to win by a narrow margin. Open 100yds— D. Foster 1, K. Tracey 2, N. Gordon and D. Tracey (dead-heat) 3. There were six starters and the time taken was 10 4-5see. Foster won by a yard. Junior half-mile cycle.— Smith (scr) 1, Wilton . (25yds ) 2, Juju 3. Brooks (45yds) also started. Time, 1.25. A well-contested race. Junior boys' 100yds. — A. Lee 1; Whilan 2, McMinn 3. Time, 11 3-5. j r'our starters. Won nicely. One mile cvcle, open. — Hurley (200yds) 1, Milroy (225yds) 2, Blomfleld (scr) 3. Also started: Parker (scr) and Mathie (175yds). Time, 2.45 2-5. Mathie pulled out | early in the race, leaving Hurley , and Milrov tb ■ make the pace. •Blomfleld arid Parker were well in I the rear. The fonner later made i good headway, but could run only I mto third position. Hurley won easily. I Open 220yds.— Foster (14yds) 1, D. Tracey (25yds) 2, K. Tracey (20 :yds) 3. Severn starters. Time, 25 i 3-5. A good race' well won. Threerlap junior cycle. — Wilton (50yds) T, Smith' (scr) 2r. Juju (75 yds) 3. 'Also started: Bartosh (75) and Brooks (125). Time, 2.11 4-5. The limit men made the pace, but on he bell Wilton, Juju, Bartosh and Smith were. most prominent. Wilton, however, riding well, won but only by a narrow margin, the others being on nis wheel. ISome twenty Ooys, of varying ages and sizes, took part, arid the field |.l ust after the start was a strag- | gling one. Taucher ran strongly to i win easily. . ! Two mile cycle. — Blomfleld (scr) j 1, Parker (scr.) 2, Mathie (200yds) ti. Also started: Hurley (Z00), I Mudgway (250) . and Smith i^50). (Mathie made the pace, foLowed by I Mudgway, Smith and Hu.iey „wioxi Parker and Blomfleld weh behind. With three laps to go, Mathie lea 1 by twenty yards, with Mudgway following. With one lap to go this irider led, but Parker and Blomfleld i were gradually overhauling him, ( with Mathie, Hurleya nd Smith fol.Ilowing. Blomfleld moved up at the ; back, followed by Parker, but the ; former won by half a lengtli after ;a fme finish. Time. 5.54. I Open 440yds. — Gordon 1, Foster , 2, D. Tracey 3. Won on the tape j after a fine finish. Time, 55sec. 1 Relay race.— Otaki 1, Railway 2. Only teams to compete.
