BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR SHOW

ENTEIES CLOSE JANUARY 17 By all indications this- year's show to be eonducted by the Horowhehua A. and P. Association will be a reeord $ne. -Although the entries do not close till January 17, considerable interest is being shown both locally and in other districts. Horowhenua is noted throughout the Dominion for the high standard achieved in cattle entries, and outside breeders are always anxious to achieve distinction at the annual shows held here. This year's schedule is an attractive one to breeders. The number of classes have risen over the previous year's totals, stock alone ■ rising from 197 to 225. Judging on reports from other centres, agricultural shows are enjoying imcreasing prosperity, and the local association is anticipating a hoom on the number of entries and general public response on this, their 41st showi The show will run' for two days, as in other years, commencing on Friday, January 31, and concluding on the Saturday. On the Monday the annual ram fair wiil be held, and entries for this also close on Friday, January 17. The Association has always been ; in' favour of boosting marching I teams, and this year it is inviting teams from all over the North Island to attend the show. Amang the teams invited to attend are Judd's, of Pahiatua, and Shaw's Kilties, of Hastings, and these, together with the local teams will probably be presenting a demonstration on t^hei afternoon of People's f)ay. A colourful programme has been afranged for this day, highland dancing, the grand paraae, horse jumping competitions and dog trials being only a few of | the items on the programme. i As in other years, there will be the usual array of sideshows, and trade exhibits, which are always widely patronised by the public, are on a wider scale and should prove both interesting and educational. The association is also endeavouring to secure the co-operation of Mr. J. Craig, a well kniown breeder of Clydesdale horses, and it is hoped that arrangements can be made with'him for the entry of his team of eight Clydesdales. Mr. Craig has intimated that he will enter his team if a local team was also efitered. Altogether the show promises to be a very attractive one and will do much to further the public interest in the' activities of farmers and breeders in the Horowhenua district.
