HIGH MARRIAGE AND BIRTH RATE IN LEVIN
Figures obtained yesterday from the Levin Registrar,, Mr. H. J. Henderson, show an inerease in the rnarriage rate Jor the past year of 30 over the previo„us year's totaL This inerease is fairly general thraughout New Zealand and could joerhaps be attributed to the fact that a large number of servicemen returned to the Dommions between December and Mar.ch. District marriages for 1946 totalled 87, as against 57 in 1945; 13 cotfples were married by the registrar, as compared with 12 the previo.ua year. ^ Throughout the past year the birth rate has been gradually inereasing. Births reeorded! by the registrar totalled 191, an inerease of 53 oyer last year's total of 138;. Deaths have remained . fairly statie, 73 being reeorded against 79 in 1945. The following are the comparable frgures for December: Births 14 (II), marriages 10 (10), deaths 8 (5).
