REMARKABLE ESCAPE
TRUCK LEAVES ROAD— DROPS . 150 FEET A remarkable escape from death was experienced by a party of Levin youths on New Year's Eve, when a truck in which they were touring the North lsland left the road at the top of the Otoko Hill, near Gisborne, crashed through a fence, plunged down a 150-foot bank and rofled over twice before ccming. to rest on its side among scrub at the foot of the bank. ■ A passenger in the cab, Mr. G. Sciascia, Tiro Tiro Road, was taken to a Gisborne hospital, where he was treated for abrasions, cuts and shock. He is expected to be discharged today. The driver, Mr. C. Griffith, Kimberley Road; and an oceupant of the tray of the vehicle Mr. R. Stevens, Weraroa Road, were' both treated at the hospital for cuts, abrasions and shock. The other members of the party, Messrs D; J'. S-tannard, N. Sciascia and T. Winiata, escaped injury. The vehicle was extensively damaged.
