RECORD DAY'S RAIN
. WEATHER DISAPPOINTING FOR HOLIDA YMAKERS : i r * . > ^ . „ ' Heavy rain set in at an early hour yesterday morning and continued almost incessantly until 10 a.m. today when it stopped, the weather remaining overeast and threatening. , The rain started to fali shortlv after 4 a.m. yesterday and up to*6 a.m. today a total of 2.1 inehes had been registered. This is the heaviest single day's rainfall on record for 1946. To holidaymakers, and particularly those camping at beaches and other resorts, the weather thusfar has been exceedingly disappointing. Strong winds and some rain over the Christmas period made eonditions sufficiently„ unpleasant, but the heavy rain sjnce yesterday has placed a complete damper on the holiday atmosphere. If the weather is fine over New Year it will be some small compensation for its earlier vagaries. Activities at Luna Park, Waitarere Beach, where the Levin R.S.A. is "conducting its big carnival in aid of the memorial hall fund, were abandoned yesterday. More fav-~ ourable weather is looked for tomorrow when motor-cycle sports, marching displays and a baby show are to be held.
