. WELLINGTON, Dec. 29. After three and a half, days' play, Wellington beat Auckland^ ip the Plunket Shield inatch on Saturday by 125 runs on the first innings. With 222 runa on for the loss of only four wiekets, Auckland appeared to have a good chance of heading the 389 set them by Wellington but a brilliant burst of bowling by/D. 8j. Wilson who captured on Saturday inorning iive wiekets for 15 runs off 11.1 overs, saw Auckland all out by f2.20 p.in; for a total of 264, which gave Wellington a lead of 125 on the first innings. Wilson 's bowling was supported by brilliant fielding, McVicar and Cave talcing sensational one handed catches ciose to the ground to disiniss Taylor and Sutcliffe. The weather was line 'with a light northerly breeze when Sutclilfe (3) and Taylor (1) resumed Auckland 's lirst innings. With the total at 250 Taylor, who had just reached double figures, attempted to turn one from Wilson to iine leg. The ball struclc the edge of his bat and cocked up in front of the wicket. Alenzies joined McVicar who played late at one from Wiles and detiec'ted the ball on to his sticks.
