BANDS PROVIDE CHRISTMAS MUSIC
Levin was well catered for music over the Christmas by the Horowhenua Highland Pipe and Levin Municipal Bands. Tne Pipe Band en.iivened proceedings during the; evening on Christmas Eve at 10 p.m. while earlier in the' evening they had paraded in Oxford Street and provided a much appreciated programme which was enjoyed by ihe large number 'of ci-tizens who were in town on this fe'stiVe occasiom On Christmas morning the LevinMunicipal Band comnfenced carofling at 5 a.m. but rain forCed thefh to abandon their full programme, as they were not able to cover the whole town as was their intentioh. With half the band awa" on their annual leave it was • not possible to make two parties with the result that only the east side of the railway line was covered. A collection was taken to buy new instruments and resulted in £31 being. collected. The band's thanks are due to Mr. R. J. C. Church for moviding transport free of charge and also to Mr. C. Larsen for the -rovision of refrpchmpnfa n.t hrenkfa«?t time.
Bands and Marching Teaihs at Beach Yesterdav the Horowhenua Highland Pipe Band and Levin Boys' Band were at Waitarere Beach and assisted the Levin R.S.A. on the opening day of their earnival, by playing selections at appropr-iate occasions. ° The' K.B.H. and Caledonian teams in conjunction with the Horowhenua Highland Pioe Band put on a marching displav on the beach, after the opening ceremony at Luna Park had. been performed by the Mayor of Levin, Mr. H. B. Burdekin. Large numfiers were present and the combined display was freely applauded.
