POSTAL SERVICES RUSHED
STAFF WORKING AT HIGH PRESSURE The Christmas rush on the postal services reached a climax this morning, when the Levin Post Office experienced its busiest period. Long queues were lined up at all counters from 9 a.m. onwards and the staff, particularly at the postal counter, was kept working at high pressure. Behind the scenes parcels and sacks of mail awaiting clearance were stacked high, wherever space could be found, ar times even the yard at the rear of the office being utilised. Postal staff worked all day on Saturday in an endeavour to clear the accumulation of parcels and letters both to and from the Levin district. ' The staff maintain that this Christmas has been one of the "busiest experienced. There is an unprecedented number of Christmas cards being sent through the post, and this *has necessitat'ed the employment of additional staff in the postal section, ,in order to expedite delivery. To ensure delivery before Christmas, mail destined for outside districts should be posted this afternoon.
