Mr. Jeffrey said that the majority of '•parents did not realise the wonderful job the school teachers were doing for the community, and on behalf of the parents he wished to extend sincere thanks to all the teaching staff. i Mr. Jeffrey then asked Mr. Dick- . enson to accept an occasional table ; as a small mark of appreciation and gratitude from the public and the | committee, and wished them good health and a long and pleasant retirement. On behalf of Mrs. Dickenson and himself, Mr. Dickenson thanked Mr. Jeffrey for his kind remarks and the token of goodwill. Speaking on behalf of the pupils and the staff, Miss Shanks wished Mr. and Mrs. Dickenson every happiness in their retiremept, and asked Mr. Dickenson to accept a fountain pen and a book from the pupils and the teachers. In his reply, Mr. Dickenson paid ia high tribute to the members of his teaching staff and the very ,able manner in which they carri^d ! out their duties. It was due to their hclpfulness and their efficiency ,that hc was able to say that the 'last fcw years at Shannon had been the happiest of his life as a teacher. The afternoon concluded by the ' singing of Christmas carols by tne ! school choir.
