PARAPARAUMU NOTES

The December meeting of the Paraparaumu Women's Institute was held in the Anglican Hall, presided over by - Mrs. Hornsby. I I'here was a very large attendance, land the hall was gay with ChristImas trimmings and a large Christimas tree. Thc meeting opened with : ohe institute song and the repeating I of the asp.'rations. Correspondencc was dealt with and after reading a letter from the sister institute in England, a collection was taken up to provide a parcel to be dispatched immediately to the members of it. | The well-stbt'kedJliSal^sv'Jtable1,1 in jcharge of Mesdames Weston and 1 Cateref , was in aid of library funds. j ■ rwo new members, Miss Fraser and ; ,Mrs. Rickells, were welcomed and] iduly enrolled. The competition forj uhe best presentation box of flowers ! brought in a large entry. Mrs. Smith was the winner, while Mrs. Weston was sccond. Mrs. Ashworth was the judge and afterwards gave some helpful comments on presen- . tation box arrangement. The best flower competition went to Mrs. Strand and Mrs. Delahunty. Christmas carols were sung and much isnjoyed by all, Miss Hansen 1 accompanying them on the piano. Christmas gifts were then dis- : t.ributed from a well-laden tree, . ' Miss Clarkjon a cting as Father Christmas. Mrs. Hornsby, in closing the meeting, wished all a merry Christmas and a very happy New Year. Afternoon tea was served and ..hc meeting concluded wilh the singing of the National Anthem. i A Christmas party was held in the Coronation Hall by the R.S.A. Cor children of ex-servicemen. It ,vas well attended and all had a vety happy time. The shops are wearing their Christmas decorations and have a festive air, although many ordinary Christmas eommodities are in very short supply.
