MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage Board was held in che boara's oilice at Foxton on ivlonctay evening,' and was presided over oy Trustee S. W. Barber (chairman). Also present were Trusuees G. Cuii, E. H. Robinson, W. H. Bmith and tne clerk (Mr. G. V. Fraser) . The clerk reported that the bank balance was in credit to the exceiu of £341 12s lOd. Accounts amounting to £83 6s 4d were passed foi paymeni. 'ihe foreman (Mr. W. Kruse) reported that during the month 33 chains of Langley 's drain had been shovellect, trimmed and dragged. and 29 chains dragged. A slip was caken out of this section. The drain was found to be bad with swan grass for 25 chains. The main arain was inspected and the lowei stretch, from the floodgate to Robmson's bena, was found ro be heavy in water weed and water grass. The top 85 chains also had a few patches of water grass. The whole length of the drain had a channel aiong one side, and the middle stretch was fairly clear of grass and weed.
Trustee Robinson expressed the opinion that the drain was in fairly good condition for this time of the year. The chairman stated that it certainly did not appear to be in a bad state. Mr. Barber also commented on the state of the board's section in Union Street, which was covered with lupin, and it was decided to have this cleared forthwith. Trustee Robinson suggested having the area planted with ' trees, and the suggestion was noted for attention at the proper time. It was decided to add ten per cent. to all rates unpaid by January 24.
