SIX YEARS OF FINE WORK
LADY GALWAY GUILD AT END OF THE ROAD After six years of splendid achievement in collecting and forwarding sorely neeaed clothing to Great Britain and other places, the Levin Branch of the Lady Galway Guild has ceased its activities. This, unfortunately, does not mean that the people of the Homeland and other war-torn countries no longer require clothing. The need in this respect continues as great as over, and the work will now be undertaken by CORSO, commencing early in the New Year with a elothes drive. The Lady Galway Guild was formed in Levin in 1941 and in the .;ix years of its existence collected md forwarded a total of 25,182 Igarments to Great Britain, 900 to the Polish children's camp at Pahiatua and 1000 to Greece, while it assisted UNRRA, the Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John 'in collecting a further 10,000 garjmdnts in a combined effort in" i Levin. Not only did the guild org- ■ anise the collection of clothing, but j it saw that all garments were Lnended and cleaned before packj'ng and ultimate despatch to their | iestination. | Great praise is due to the willing j 'oand of ladies- under the leadership ;of Mrs. C. S. Keedwell, who so i ungrudgingly devoted their time , and services fco play a part in makiing tlie guild's contribution to the jwar efforf s;uph n m^gnificent.one.
