PRICE OF GAS IN LEVIN
INCREASE MOOTED TO MEET ADDED COSTS In oi'der to meet additional costs imposed as a result of a new award, a rise in the cost of carting coal and other factors, the Levin Borough Council, at a meeting on Monday night, decided on the recommendation of its gasworks committee to auply to the Price Investigation Tribunal for consent to increase the price of gas to consumers by adjustments in the rates of discount allowed. It was reported to the meeting that the new award for gas workers, which became operative from Novernber 11 last, would. mean an estimated increase of £250 in the wages payable to the council's gasworks empioyees. The' ariiount of the adjustment to be applied for was left to the chairman pf the gasworks committee (Cr. F. E. Parker) and council officials.
