FAREWELL AT KOPUTAROA
COUPLE WHO ARE LEAVING FOR ' UNITED STATES Recently married and to leave shortly to mVke their home in the Lfnited States, Mr. and Mrs. D. Gaspard were tendered a farewell evening . on Saturday night by the settlers of Koputaroa. The funccion took the form of a social and dance, and under the able guidance of Mr. G. Rendall as master of ceremonies the proceedings were kept moving merrily, all present spending a pleasant evening. At a suitable juncture, Mr. D. K. Guy, on behalf of the people of the distriet, voiced • the regret felt at che departure of Mr. and Mrs. Gaspard, particularly the latter, who had taken a keen interest in the community life of Koputaroa. Mr. Guy extended good wishes to the guests, and asked them to accept a cheque and travelling bag from their many friends. Mf. Gaspard suitably responded. Mrs. G. Rendall presented Mrs. Gaspard with a posy and Mr. Gaspard with a button-hole. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Gaspard was Miss Lorna Koberstein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Koberstein, well-known residents of Koputaroa. Mr. Gaspard arrived at Whenuapai from Sah Francisco by Pan-American Airways Clipper on Novernber 16. He was formerly a member of the Second Division of the United States Mafines, and met Miss Koberstein while stationed at Paekakariki in 1943.
