An eleetrician attached to the eity engineer's department, Mr. Arthnr Eoyle, ageif 30, elimbed a telegraph poie to hook up the power supply with a meter box and switches on ground i Ievel. Tlie power was required for Velding work in eonneetion with the new pipeline. the eity council is constructing. Mr. Coyle's companion, Mr B. T. Speer, council elCctrical foreman. noted about 8.30 a,m. that the eonneetion appeared to have been made satis factorily but a few minutes later when he glanced «p at the pole he saw Mr Coyle tlirown across a line described as three-phase and neutral wires of 460 volts capacity, " I elimbed up the ladder standinu agftiitst the pole and had a hard job dragging him awav, " said Mr. Speer Later T called for ropes and when tliey came and 1 had him disentangled from the ladder an'd wires, T lifted him elenr and lowered him to the ground." Then while Mr. Speer applied first aid, the men on tlie job sent for an anibnlance ankl doctor. Dr. McGporge considered it. essential for artificial respi ratiort attempts to continue with out interruption and nearbv residents made a bedroom available for the treat ment. A lortg batlle for Eoyle's lif>* began but he died shortlv after oue o'elock.
