EXCHANGE OF GREETINGS
A pleasant interlude tookplaceat the Levin Borough -Council's mfeeting last evening, the business being adjourned for a brief period during which the Mayor (Mr. H. B. Bufdekin) entertained councillors and members of the staff at supper. Before the meeting resumed, His Worship, on behalf of the Mayoress and himself, extended best wishes to councillors, the staff and Press for the coming festive season. Mr. Burdekin said that all would look back on 1946 as a year fraug'ht with many difficulties, but one, nevertheless, in which much good' had been accomplished. The coming year would be l'ooked forward 'to in the hope that it would bring something substantial in the way of peace. The meetings of the Big T'hree Foreign Ministers were Showing some progress towards that goair continued His Worship, but he felt that a great deal lay in starting from the bottom'and workihg up. If only the right spirit could be inculcated into the thoughts,' actions and everyday manner of living of the individual, it would spread to the towns and so on through to countries and natirns. The senior councillor, Cr. \F, E., Parker, on behalf of members, reciprocated the Mayor 's good wishes, and expressed the hope that 1947 would be happy and prosperous for both the. Mayor and Mayoress. He also extended the season's greetings to the office and putside staffs, and to the Press. The town clerk (Mr. H. L. Jenkins) spoke for the borough staff, extending good wishes to the Mayor, Mayoress and members of the council.
