LARGE-SCALE SMUGGLING

Tlie Ardenncs, Hurgen Forest and Aaclien, wltere some of tlie war'a greatest battlcs were fought two years ago, are scencs of tlie greatest smuggling operntions Europe has even known, savs the Associated Press. It is estimated that niore tlian £250,000 worth of goods montlily is crossing the Ger: inan, Belgian and Netherlands frontiers. Fronlier guards say British, American, Belgian aud Polisli soldiers are responsiblo for much of the smuggling. A chief Britisli intolligence officer lermed tlie operations fantastic. A handf'ul of guards was trying to bloek a flood of loot which includes jewels, furs, radios, kitchenware and cars into Belgium and coffee, food and cigarettes out of Belgium.
