SHANNON PLUNKET SOCIETY
— DECEMBER MEETING Mrs. L. Wilson presided over the December meeting pf the Shannon Plunket Society, held on Tuesday afternoon. Also present were Mesdames J. Creagh (secretary) , E. Barber, F. Edmonds, V. Bateman, C. Tremewan and E. Chester. A letter was received from headquarters intimating that ' the amount apportioned to the Shannon sub-branch to . hquidate the Wellington Karitane HOspital overdraft of £5000 was £40; with a request that effbrts be made to raise this amount by.next March. Following a lengthy discussion, it was ' decided "that1' a "beautiful baby" contest, to be judged by photographs, on which votes would be sold, be held. The photograph of the baby bringing in-the liighest sum of money would, "be declared the winner of the competition. The first, second and third "■ prizes will be presented at a children's plain and fancy dress dance, to be held in the Druids' Hall on a tentative date of March 15* Entries.will close with the secretapy ?;on Fefcfruary 10, following which "" date voting will commence and continue until the day of the dance. The balance-sheet of the Plunket ball was presented by the secretary and disclosed a credit of £13 16s. Mrs. F. Edmonds was appointed a trustee to replace Mrs. F. Thurston, who has left the district. The nurse's report stated that five visits were paid to Shannon, while 39 adults came to the rooms, besides 38 babies and two preschool children. Thirteen visifcs were paid to homes,
