Cuting Grass on Streets Tne. contractor who was engagea by the council to mow the grass on the borough streets has commenced work in stout Street. Already a great improvement can be noticecl, and by the time all the streets are mown the town will be in excellent order for the holidays. Successful Sale of Work in presenung her report on the recent sale of work held by the church, Mrs. E. L. Hyde, president of the Shannon Anglican Ladies' Guild, informecl members that the total return from the sale of work was £182 10s. Mrs. Hyde stated that this was an excellent achievement, and thanked the public and members of the church for their support and help in conducting the function. Art Union Drawing An art union which was recently conducted by the Horowhenua Badminton Sub-association was drawn in the branch oflice of "The Chronicle" on Thursday evening. The drawing took placc under the supervision of Constable Watson, and those present included Mr. J. Bryant, of Manakau (presiaent of the sub-association) , Mr. T. S. Downes (secretary) and Messrs. B. Mather (Manakau) and V. E. Tippler (Shannon), members of the association. The list of prizewinners was advertised in yesterday's issue. Farewell Social A number of friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Boon, at Mangaore, on Tuesday evening for a farewell social prior to Mr. and Mrs. Boon's departure for Tuai on Monday. A most enjoyable evening was spent. Mr. V/. Grey extended best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Boon, and hoped they would enjoy success and every happiness in their new home. Mr. V. E. Tippler endorsed Mr. Grey's remarks. Mr. Boon suitably replied on behalf of Mrs. Boon and himself. The ladies of Mangaore served a delightful home-made supper, which was enjoyed by all present.
