INTERIM BASIC WAGE RISE

Received Eriday, 11.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 13. A basic wage rise for male workers of 7s a week in all tlie Capital cities except Hobart where it will be 6s, was granted today by the full Arbitratior. Court. This is an interim award pending thr. final determination of the Union 's claims for a full review of the basic wage. The rise will be retrospective to the iii'st pay period in December. All loadings on the basic wage will be retained at 'their existing amounts until otherwise ordered. The Court estimated the additionai cost to tlie employers at about £26,000,000 yearly. The new basic wage in the various Btates will be: New South Wales £5 3s Victoria £5 6s, Queensland £5 ls, South Austraiia £5 2s, West Austraiia £5 2s and Tasmania £5 3s.
