Euchre Wimiers There was liie usual good attendance of players at the weekly euchre tournament condueled by tlie local' branch- of the Labour Party in Laurvig's HaiJ on Friday evening. Prize winners were Mr. j . Bmciair and Mrs. Lee, benr. Bowling Team The ioliowujg i.s tlie rink chosen to represeiit the Shannon Bowling Club in the matcli to be played against the Takaro Club, at Palmerston North, over the weekend for the Dixon Cup: Messrs. E. T. Wilson, A. R. Mills, S. Morrison and L. Hook (s). The last occasion that Shannon challenged for the Dixon Cup was against Eketahuna late last season, when the match was played in heavy rain. The local rink was defeated on the last head. On Saturday the local club will hold a progressive pairs tournament, and players are requested to report at the green early . so that the selection committee can arrange the g'ames.
Tribute to District Nurse While the subject of a resident doctor was under discussm-i by the Shannon Borough Council at Lts meeting on Tuesday evenin.i. the Mayor (Mr. R. E. Downes) made reference to the excellent work being done for the distnct by the district nurse. Mr. Downes- said that the town had been fortunate in always obtaining the services of : a most reliable nurse. Many counI cillors endorsed the Mayor's j remarks, one stating that a large [ section of the pubiic did not know ;the amount of work the nursa was doing for the comniunit.;, and it was only when they required hcr ! services that they rfalised how busy she was, and the long honrs she jdevoted to the well being of the district. November Weather At No. 1 dam, Mangahao, rain | fell on 25 days during November and measured 21.85 inches. The rainfall at Mangaore power house was 4.93 inches, which fell 011 20 days. The highest day tempera- ! ture in the shade recorded in Shan- | non during November was 69 idegrees on the 21st (76 degrees was ! the highest day temperature in 1945 > and the lowest was 54 degrees j recorded on the 14th (60 degrees in 1945). The highest night temperature was 60 degrees on the 28th (59 degrees) and the lowest was 42 degrees on the 6th and Sth (48 degrees) . It is interesting to note that the average day temperature this' November ' was oVer' ' fout degrees lower than during the same month last year, and the average night temperature over five degrees lower.
