LEVIN GIRLS VISIT OTAKI Some twenty members of , the Caiedonian and -ihe K.13.H. girrs' marching teams atrractiveiy aturefi m onghc unilorrns of green and wiiioe (.Caiedonian) ana biue aua .vmie (K.B.H.), visited Otaki on Wednesaay night and with ' Mr .- J. xaciarlane in attendance as eoacn ^ave a very pieasing display of marching. The highlight of the perfcrman.ce was a combined disjlay by ihe two teams under - ihe isaderohip of Miss Shirley Smiih, and this item drew prolonged ipplause from the pufclic. i The. young ladies kypt perfect timev,and ■heir movemcnts were certainly very graceful and capably carried' aut. - They were accorded hearty applause, well deserved. The Otaki Brass Band, under Bandmaster Dinnison, accompanied them.v : Mr. A. L. Dobson, secretary of -the Horowhenua Marching Association, ' tated that it was hoped to forni Peams in Otaki and that a meeting would shortly be held for that purjose. Teams had been formed in eoth Shannon and Levin, and good orogress had been made. He'saw
:o reason why Ouaki should not ioin issue, and he hoped to see t.wc eams at least formed. The cost o'i uniforms would be material ano making, only 30s, and there would be no other expense as these woulo be borrie' by the association. A" there were basketball and basebal" iubs in Otaki, he saw no difficulty n arranging matters, and he said hat he would be pleased to receiv; lames. It was stated that many of the yirls had only had 184 hours train ing, and others 164 hours. ' It was ooinled out that the Otaki A.A. and C. Ciub was bearing the cxpenses of the vrit. As the result of an appeal for members, eighteen volunteered jmmediately to jcin, while today nore have signified their intention if doing so. It is fully expected that least two teams will be formed locally and probably thr.ee. Girls ideciring to join should hand in ■ UTeir nemes as early as possible. Application may be made direct to Mr. A. L. Dobson, s.ecretary of the Horowhenua Marching Association. Levin, or to Mr. Fred Edwards. ! presidcnt of the local athletic ciub.
