WELLINGTON, Dec. i3. There is every possibfiity that 4ew Zealand will compete in the .iuropean zon'e 1947 Davis Cup comjetition. A recommendation to the nanagement committee to submit ,n entry was made last night by manimous decision of the council ,f the New Zealand- Lawn Tennis issociation. This will involve seiidng a team to England as was done n some pre-war seasons. "The management committee eems to have had the impression hat New Zealand players are so veak that they would not be woftli ;ending away to a Davis Cup match, beeause they would' b'e >adly beaten up," said Mr. H. N. 3urns. "1 think that is refi'rehenible and defeatist". That attitud'e vvill not be overcome tintil we send jur players overseas and continue 0 send them as long as we can. I hink" everyone will agree that the p*eat names of New Zealand t'e-tms .re those of players who have had jverseas experTehce. Players shoui 1 se sent abroad as often as they are irepared to go. Many of them ean•iot afford to go, and the only v.stv "ve can do it is by entering a team n the European zone of the Davis Cup." Dr. N: A. Foden poiiited out 1liat 'he management committee ha:d .lothing to do with the withdrawal his year. He agreed that New lealand shorld enter the EuroDean ;one next year. Members of the eam would play in Englan'd and on he Continent, meetin'g all the l:ad■ig players,
