POLICE STOP FIGHT ON LINER
Received Thursday, 1.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Dec, 11. Fighting involving members of tlie crew, the ship's officers and police broke rut on tlie Jiner Ormond e late this aftefnoon, sliortly before she was due lo sail for Wellington with 4£() passengers. Two members of the crew were arrested. , Some of the crew invaded the purser's offic-e and an altercation occurred, The police were calied and one niemner of tlie crew was dragged off tlie sliip. When it appeared the trouble was over, ligliting broke out in the purser's office. Tables were overlurned and a cliair was upraised aiul bronght down with a eraslj, A seaman was knocked unconscious. A few minutes afterwards the officers dragged the semi-conscious man from the purser's office. Witli.startling sudilennness the man rose to liis feet and lunged at an officer and several otliers standing around. The man was niaking tlie ffght willing when a constable dropped liim with a blow from his baton. Tlie trouble ended with tlie arrivnl of police reinforcements and the liner sailed at 5.30 p.m.
