WRAPPING PAPER SHORTAGE

Shannon business people are suffering from an acute shortage of wrapping paper. Some of the firms are doubtful if their present stocks will carry them over the Christmas holiday period. It is understood that the position will become more acute in the New Year. According to Mr. H. V. Everton, of Neil Cooper, Ltd., who has just returned from a business trip to Canada and the United States, Canadian manufacturers are making allocations of paper which were about equal to 1946 supplies, to various countries. This, however, was much less than pre-war levels, and there would be insufficient supplies to meet the demand.
