BOWLING NOTES
SHIELD GAMES AND TOURNEY On Saturday afternoon the Shqnjnon Bowling Club played matches in the Triangular Shield competition. Both teams which travelled !to Levin were defeated while the game^ played at Shannon resulted 'in the' rink skipped by E. Thorne winning and the rink skipped by L. IHook being defeated. | The club's first all-day tournaiment for this season was held over ithe weekend, with rinks visiting Ifrom Foxton, Levin and Palmerston North. Five games of 11 heads leach were played and rinks skipped jby Messrs. K. Bowater (Central) and H. Robson and K. Patton (Palmerston North) scored four wins [each. In the play off Bowater's irink defeated H. Robson's rink and the Manawatu rink with K. Patton as a skip defeated Bowater's rink, the Manawatu rink being the winners of the tournament. Prior to the commencement of play the president of the Shannon Club, Mr. A. R. Mills, extended a welcome to the visitors and expressed the hope that they wouid all enjoy a good day on the green. Mr. Mills then introduced Mr. Patton, who is the president of the Manawatu Bowling Centre. Mr. Patton expressed pieasure at being asked to visit Shannon, and thanked the Shannon Club for its invitation. Later in the day Mr. Patton congratulated the club on the success of the function, and stated that he would bring a Manawatu rink down to Shannon again in the very near future. The weather conditions were ideal for bowling over the weekend, and the local green was well attended. The Shannon rinks which journeyed to Levin on Saturday were all very struck by the excellent condition of the Levin green.
