BOWLER'S PRESIDENT RESIGNS
APPRECIATIGN OF SERVICES A special meeting of the Shannon Bowling Club was held in the Council Chambers last week. The president (Mr. E. J. Spencer), in outlining the reasons for caliing the meeting, said that he wished to bring before the notice of members that he had been advised by his doctor not to take an active interest in sport, and he regretted very much that he would have to tender his resignation from the oflice of president. Mr. Spencer went on to thank the members for electing him to the position of president of the club, and stated that no one regretted more than he did that he had to give up the position, but his health was now at such a state that, acting on medical advice, he would have to give up all sport for a while. Mr. Spencer then called for nominalions for a new president for the rest of the season. Mr. R. Hook stated that cach and every member of the club was extremely sorry that Mr. Spencer had to take this step. Mr. Hook went on to state that Mr. Spencer had always been a keen and willing worker for the betterment of the club and bowling generally, and he hoped that it would not be very long before Mr. Spencer's health had improved sufflciently to allow him to return to the green once again. Mr. F. Edmonds also spoke in high terrns of Mr. Spencer and the work he had done for the club. Mr. I Edmonds proposed that Mr. A. R. ! Mills be elected president for the Iremainder of the season. On being put to the meeting, this motion was , carried. In tendering his thanks to the meeting for the honour bestowed ; upon him, Mr. Mills said that it was ; with regret that the club was losing the services of Mr. Spencer, both as I president and a player, and he sincerely hoped that he would have a ' speedy return to health and be = back on the green in the very near I future. ! Several other members also paid ! tribute to Mr. Spencer's woi'k. On continuing the general busiiness, arrangements were made for ! forthcoming competition matches and inter-club games. On the motion of Mr. F. Edmonds, it was agreed that the club should pay insurance on bowls left in the lockers at the clubhouse by members.
