Despite an intensive four months' search, the Conmionwealth Government has been unable* to find an acceptable authority willing to assunxe the responsibility. Mr. Chifley admitted that the Government was stili having the greatest difficulty finding a suitable man. Some high-ranking public servants who would nprmally rush a £5000 yearly joh are believed to have shied oif when told it was the Coal Board chairmanship. Chiney' saia tnere nad been plenty of applicants but none measured up to requirements. The present Coal Comniissioner, IVIr.. H. L. Williams, will resigp when the new appointment is made.
