AGRICULTURAL CLUB'S LOSS
PASSING OF INSTRUC.TOR Reference tc .the loss which the Horowhenua Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club had suffered in the ceeent passing of the Wellington Education Board's agricultural instructor, Mr. J. J. Stevenson, was made at the club's annual luncheon on Friday. The late Mr. Stevenson was appointed to ihe position in 1940, orior to which he had held a sinai- . lar appointment at the Palmerston North Boys' High School for 20 ■ years. Mr. S.evenson brought to the agricultural club movement in his district a wide and sound knowledge, and boundless enthusiasm. He succjeded in imbuing the children of the schools he visited with a large measure of that enthusiasm. Under his guidance, and with the help of the clubs themselves, the popularity of the movement increased greatly, and the scope of its activities were greatly broadened. Mr. Stevenson was educated at 'he Hawkesbury Agricultural College, Australia, and was taught agriculture and science in the Commonwealth. Hs aho took part in a -cientific expedition to- New Guinea. He was employed successively by the Wellington, Canterbury and Auckland Education loards as an agricultural instrucor, and in 1920 was appointed to •"■he staff of the Palmerston North Boys' High School. He was also at ane time on the coihmittee of the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Mr. Stevenson was well known to ' he schools in the Horowhenua, and his loss will, be greatly felt by the district. He is survived by his second wife, who is school teaching at Ngaio, and two sons, Mr. Raymond Stevenson (Auckland) and Mr. Ian Stevenson (Wellington) .
