EVENING SPORTS IN OTAKI Judging by the interest evinced and the attendance at Wednesaay's evening sports, success for this season is assured the Otaki Arhletic and Cycling Club. As usual, inany memuers of rhe commiuiee, ,vih the president (Mr. F. Edwards) in charge, worked energ.eiically before and at the meeting. Much time had been devoted to the .racks, which, although not in first class condition were in creditable order.' With more attention they should be in first-class conditioh for the Anniversary Day sports. The various officials are to be complimented on the handieapping, starting and conduct of the sports. There were many close and interesting finishes. • r'onowmg aie the results of the various events: — Half-mile cycle. — Mathie (25 yds) 1, Jones (10 yds) 2, Hurley (25 yds) i Alsn started: Blomfield (scr.),
R. Mudgway (30 yds) and N. Mudgway. (35 yds) . The Mudgways established a good lead, but were overtaken by Mathie on entering ihe straight. He recorded a comlortable win, with a close finish between second and third. Junior half-mile cycle. — Wilton (60 yds) 1, Brooks (50 yds) 2, Smith (scr.) 3. Won by half a wheel. open 100 yards. — N. Mudgway (7 yds) 1, D. Honis (scr.) 2, I. Mudge (5 yds) 3. There were slx starters and uae race was won by a yard. One mile cycle. — Blomfield .(scr.) 1, Parker (10 yds) 2, I. Mudgway (125 yds) 3. Also started: Jones (20 yds), Mathie (30 yds), Hurley (60 yds) and F. Mudgway (125 yds) . This was an interesting race, with the two Mudgways making the pace over the first two laps. Then Parker, with a fine dash of speed, went to the front, with Blomfield, the Mudgways and Hurlev accompanying him. Blomfield forced his way to the front to win from Parker by a wheel, with half a length between second and third. Junior boys' 100 yards. — Honis (scr.) 1, Hakaraia (3 yds) 2, Mudgway (5 yds) 3. There were twelve starters and Honis won by inches. Three laps cycle. — Ellery (scr.) J., Street (30 yds) 2, Wilson (50 yds) 3. Also started: Brooks (60 yds), Smith (30 yds) and Julius (20 yds . Brooks established an early lead, with Wilton, Street, Smith and Ellery following. Ellery took charge at the next lap, with Street next, rand they maintained that- order past the post. Wilsoh rode into chird.
Junior girls' race. — Miss M. Prendeville 1, Miss Marjorie Webjter 2, Miss P. Ellison 3. There were five starters and the winner ran a .ine race. Open 220 yards. — I. Mudgway L R. Hills 2, D. Honis 3. There were I ?.ight starters and it was a good •:ace, s.trongly dontested. Junior boys' 220 yards. — M. Welby i, R. Jeft'ery 2, Robinson 3. There vere twelve starters and the race vvas won comfortably. Ladies' 75 yards. — Miss M. Prenieville 1, Miss Cameron 2, Miss M. "V^bster 3. There were five starters. _ Six lap cycle. — Parker (10 ydsj 1, Blomfield (scr.) 2, Mathie (100 yds) 3. Also started: F. and ,N. Mudgway (175 yds), Hurley . (125 yds) and Jones (75 yds). Off the imit, the two Mudgways maintainM their lead over the first three laps. Then Blomfield, Parker, Hurley and Mathie closed the gap. Oq he bell the Mudgways still led, with Blomfield and Parker chatienging strongly. In the race for he finishing line, Parker, riding wcll, beat Blomfield by a wheel, with Mathie just behind third. High jump. — Julius (4ft. llin.) 1, Honis (4ft. 9in.) 2, Hargraves (4ft. 7in.) 3. Other entrants were Webstcr, Lumsden and Noblo. Lumsden a.nd Noble were beaten if Ihe 4ft. 4in. mark and Webstcr at 4ft. 5in., leaving the three placed jumpcrs to fight it out. Rclay race. — Otaki 1, Otaki cyciists 2, Training Centrc 3.
