FAILED TO KEEP WAGES AND TIME BOOK
CAFE PROPRIETOR FINED "We are constantly having trouble with Dalmatians and other Europeans in this regard," commented Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., when dealing with a charge against Kresimir Vodanovich, proprietor of the Majestic Cafe, Oxford Street, Levin, of failing to keep a wages and time book between March 28 and June 3, 1'946. "T think they know they. have to keep these records, but still neglect to do so," he added, when entering a conviction and fine of £7 10s and 10s costs against the defendant. Appearing for the Labour Department, Mr. G. J. Mayher asked the court to treat the matter .in a serious light, as firmk should be forCed to earry out their obiigations. Gn defendant's behalf, Mr. J. Todd said the charge was the sequel to a , claim by a past . einployee of the firm for overtime. It was then discovered that no time book was availaMe. The employee in question was the first the defendant had had, and his employment had originally been a temporary one. A wages and time book was now in use.
