Tlie old campaiguer Rakanui demonstrated at Avondale last week that he may still be a force to be reckoned with by linishing a good fifth in the King George Haudicap. how ten years old. Rakanui has reached a stage wherc further appreciable improvement cannot be expected, but with the prospects of the going being yielding this week the veteran's cliances will be greatly enhanced in the Plumpton Handicap.
