WEDDING OF INTEREST
JENKINS — TEWS A wedding of interest to Otaki residents was celebrated recently at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Levin, when Anita, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Tews, Ooaki, was married to Arthur Newlands, only son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Jenkins, Te Horo. The offlciating minister was Canon H. E. K. Fry, vicar of All Saints' Anglican Church, Otaki. The bride, who was escorted_,by her uncle, Mr. H. Tews, wore a beautiful and unusual wedding gown of white silk net over taffeta, appliqued with white satin flowers and leaves, and made with a ruched fitting bodice, heart-shaped neckline, long sleeves and a full double skirt farming an oval train. Her embroidered tulle veil fell from a halo head-dress oi natural flowers, lily-of-the - valley predominating, and formed a second train. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses, iris, lily-of-the-valley and asparagus fern. Her only ornament was a double string of pearls (the bridegroom's gift) . The two bridesmaids, Mi&ses Moorea Wallington and Barbara Jenkins (sister of the bridegroom) , made a most attractive picture in their frocks of shell pink robia voile over taffeta, with which was wom pink lace mittens and head-dresses of natural flowers composed of sweet peas, boronia and fern in varying shades of pink. They each carried pink shaded shower bouquets and wore single strings of pearls, the gift of the bridegroom.
In attendance upon the 'groom were Mr. Vernon Tews (the bride's orother), who carried out the dutles of best man, and Mr. Trevor Smith groomsman. The ushers at che church were Messrs. Ian Tews and Noel Smith. During the signmg of the register a friend of both families, Mrs. D. G. Moffatt,'of Palmerston North and formerly of Otaki, sang "Praise be to God." Abofit 120 guests were afterwards •ntertained at a reception at Williams' Tea Rooms. They were received by the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. H. Tews, assisted by the bridegroom's parents. Mrs. Tews wore a turquoise blue mosscrepe suit embroidered in a deeper fliade of blue with a navy hat and accessories, and a shoulder spray of apricot shaded roses. Mrs. Jenkins was attired in a black boucle suit with black hat and accessories. Her shoulder spray was compos.ed of pink roses. The bouquets and sprays, which were very mwch admired, were -the work of Mrs. McDonnell. The usual toasts were honoured, two being of particular interest. Mr. Clem Johnson, of Silverstream, vho acced as toastmaster, proposed he toasts of the two grandfathers of the bride, both of wliom were present. Messrs. F. J. Ryder and F. Tews. Mr. Ryder replied on behalf of Mr. Tews and himself. The other toast was to Mr. Noel Smith, who celebrated his 21st birthday on that day. During the reception Mrs. Moffatt sang a bracket of two songs, "When Song is Sweet" and "I Wonder if Love is a Dream." Miss Rosa Mills gave a humbrous recitation and Miss Trudy Ardagh, of Christchurch, well known to a great many South Island folk over the air, sang "I Love You Truly" and "I'll Walk Beside You." These three items were greatly appreciated by all apd wsrmly applauded. The happy couple later left by car for the north. the bride travelling in an embroidered frock of duck egg blue moss-crepe. wom under an c-ff white coat, with off white accessories. Mr. and Mrs. A. Jenkins' future . home will be in Te Horo.
