MUSICAL EVENING
BOYS' BAND ENTERTAINS AT PUBLIC CONCERT 'Under the able direction of Mr. M. H. Boyce, the Levin Boys' Band rendered a bright and entertaining prdgramme in the Century Hall lasu night. The band commenced with a rendition of "Pokarekare Ana'' and "E Pare Ra." Miss Judd t'oiiowed with two spirited highland dances, which found immediate lavour with the audience. Mrs. G. Hesp earned applause with the singing of two favourite numbers, "Just a Prayer Away" and "Irish Lullaby." Two clarinet solos, were rendered by Mr. Boyce and Miss N. McKenzie followed with two solos on the pipes. Murray Coats and Ron. Holman played a bracket of modern tunes. Between individual items, the band entertained .with popular numbers. The president of the band, Mr. H. A. Robertson, when paying a tribute- to Mr. Boyce, said that exactly a year ago the band had comprised only 12 fifes, but no-v clarinets, comets, saxaphones and drums had been added. Mr. Boyce said his aim was to have the band as a military complement, combining brass and reed mstruments. » During the evening supper was dispensed to the audience.
