A fortnight ago a screw lodged in the lung of Danny Warden, aged 4, of 25 Maxwell Koad, Grey Lynn, Auckland. He was taken to the hospital where an X-ray film showed the serew well down in tlie lung. Yesterday's operation wa3 performed by a surgeon of the hospital 's visiting staff, and today the boy is sitting up iu bed makiug good progress. The instrument uscd was made by Mr. E. Bilkey, hcad spliut makcr of the Auckland Hospital. A vitally important cnd piece by which the foreign body was gripped was inanufactured by ihe Auckland Industrial Development Laboratories, which were set up a year ago by ihe Departmeut of Scientilic aud Iudustrial Researeh. The screw was removed by the iusertion of the instrument, which is of thin metal, in the lung by way of the mouth, the screw being gripped by the end piece of the instrument which, was theu withdrawn.
