Snow-travellmg Jeeps will be used by .a joint British-Norwepian-■Swedish Antarctic expeditioh, probably in 1948-39, .says Reuter's Oslo correspondent.. Supplies will, be parachuted to scientists on the ice. The main purpose of the expedition is to study climatic changes believed to be occurring at the South Pole. Scientists will also in-' vestigate related problems. . of glaceology, meteorology, geology and climatic history. Professor Hans Ahlmana, Swedish glaceology expert, is inter.ested in whether Antarctic territorles in the future may become a vast, fertile and habitable aontinent. Research has shown that the Arctic ice was thinning comparatively fast before the war. _ Antarctic expeditions saw mnuntains free of both ice and snow. The expedition expects to hnd much coal. The Norwegians suggest an international conferenee to -consider the unsettled question of Antarctic sovereignty.
