DESIGN FOR NEW ZEALAND MEMORIAL CROSS

The Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, an nounces that his Majesty the King has been pleased to approve the design of a X'ew Zealand j\femorial Cross to be issued- to the mothers and widows of New Zealand servicemen and sailors who were killed oi died on active service, or whose subsequent death was attributed to war serviee. Mr. Fraser stated that the Government had for some time been anxious to ensure that the mothers and widows of those "who died in the serviee of their country, whether in the Navy, Army, Air Force or Alerchant Navy, should receive sorne individual token in memory of tlie one they had lost. "I trust," said Mr. Fraser, "that those who receive this Cross-w-ili aecept it as a very small tribute of gratitude from the Government and people of New Zealand in memory of one who gave his life for his country.'* The Cross is of dull silver and simple n design, being surmounted by a I Crown, having at the foot and at the | end of either arm a fernleaf, and in the centre, within a wreath of laurel Jeaves, his Iffajesty's Royal Cypher. It is suspended on purple satin ribbon and will be issued in a suitable case.
