Pirie), The Council 's general purposes committee will meet on Wedtiesday to consider the position. 3'he Daily Telegraph understands that the recognition of the Roval College of Xhirsing as a trade union and the automatic withdrawal of the dis missal notices will follow the committee 's meeting". The British Medical Association issued the following statement: "No doclor should be required to join anv body, the British Medical Association or anv other. Menibersliip should be a A'oluntary act. Wherever a local autliority imposes the condition of trade] union 'inembership the British Medical j Association will support any docto.r so affected and advise the prol'ession not to apply for appointments under such authority. " •
