Rcceivdt MiMulay, p.m. LOXDOX, J )cc. 2. Briliiin is ik'pciuliiig upon two iniporlant ititci'iiatinnal icvelopnients for a spooil-up in l{Miiob£tisat?ioti during tliQ early liioiiths o.l" 1947. It is h »p el that if au agrcniiH'iit is roacheil upon the U'lmiiiisl rat ion of Tricste it will be possililo to lliiu onl the British forees in italy, that if the treatv is eonehnled betueen Britain and Fgvpt it will be pussible further to reduce ihe garrisons in the Middle Fast, and that the restor,'ition of more setiled conditions in the Kar Fast will niake it possible to withdraw more British troops from Malaya and other tireas in which there are at present British garrison forees. If 'hese liopes are realised it is hoped that the approximate strength of three divisiohs will Be released early nex.t veur. It is not e.xpected that the British will eontribute more than oue bri gade to Ihe Allied police foree for Trieste and it is hoped to raise local troops in Malaya to replace sonie of tlie British troops at present there. The raio of withdrawal from Fgvpt will depend on the rate at which the Anglo-I'-gypt ian Treaty is coni]deted.
