WELLINGTON) Nov. 29. Tke nneasoiiable weather was mainly responsible for tlie present sliortage of potatoes, said the Minister of Marketing, Hon. B. Roberts today. The season for obl potatoes was practieally fmished and new potatoes were likely to be in comparatively sliort supply during the next four or five weeks. Unseasonable wet weather during July and August meant that the aereages to be dug during December and early January would be substantially less than usual in the North Tsland. Tn the South Island new potatoes were always a month or two Jater than in the north but this year South Island aerea-ges had suifered severely from late frosts. The Minister added that weather condition, s were still hampering the planting of commercial areas for next year 'i main- crop, prospects for which wer« not very bright. It would, therefore be wise for home gardeners to plan! now more potatoes where possiblc a&ainst gossible shortages next year. • * Sr '
