CHAIRMAN RESIGNS

SEQUEL TO CATCHMENT BOARD DISPUTE Giving effect to his statement of his intention to resign from the chairmanship of the Manawatu Catchment Board, Mr. J. T. J. Heatley lodged his resignation in writing with the clerk of the board (Mr. L. J. Hagan ) last week. This action is in accordance with the provisions of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, which sets out that the clerk must call forthwith a special meeting of the board for the purpose of electing a new chairman. This special meeting has been called for Tuesday, December 3. In a statement, Mr. Heatley said he wished to. make it quite clear that he was resigning only from his office as chairman. He had not resigned from the board, and he had no intention of doing so. "I am one of the nominees of the Palmerston North City Council on the| catchment board, and I intend to remain there and watch the interests of the people I represent," he said.
