OTAKI RAILWAY BEAT LEVIN
WEBSTER ROSE BOWL MATCH In glorious weather five rinks from the Otaki Railway Bowling Club - visited Levin on Saturday to play for the Webster rose bowl, I Which has been held by the Levin Club for some time. On arrival the visitors were weicomed on behalf of the Levin Club by its president, Mr. H. G. Mackay, who expressed pleasure at having a visit from the Railway Club. The weather was ideal, and he knew that most enjoyable games would result. Mr. Mackay said he hoped Jhat on this occasion the visitors would be successful in winning the trophy. In the play which followed Otaki Railway won 3£ games and scored 103 points, while Levin won 1£ games and scored 89 points. Otaki Railway thus lifted the rose bowl from the holders. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea, Mrs. Nicoll supervising the arrangements. At the conclusion of the games, Mr. Mackay congratulated the Railway Club on its win. It was a well-deserved one, he said, and the club had won on its merits. The president of the Railway Club, Mr. F. Rule, said it was so long since the club had seen the rose bowl that 'members had foi*gotten what it was like. The visit to Levin had given h.is members great pleasure, and they were pleased at having been successful. fhe games had proved most enjoyable. He thanked the home team for the good day's sport and warm hospitality. LEVIN LADIES' GAMES On Wednesday last two rinks from the Levin Ladies' Bowling Club visited the Levin Centrai Club, and although the men's teams won, the experience gained by meeting better players must eventually improve the standard of play in the Ladies' Club. The return visit to be played on Wednesday, December 4, is being looked forward to with pleasure. The weekly matches for the Lett Brooches were keenly contested, the winners for the week being Mesdames McKinstry and "W. Mudgway. In perfect weather on Saturday, the Ladies' Club entertained eight rinks from various Palmerston North women's bowling clubs. ' The visitors arrived at 10 a.m. ahd games continued until 4.30 p.m. Mrs. Turner's rink (Terrace End) was successful and Mrs. Henderion's (Levin) was runner-up. LEVIN BEAT OTAKI Six rinks from the Levin Club paid a visit to the Otaki Club on Saturday for a seri,es of friendly games. The green was in good order, and play proved most enjoyable. The games were closely contested, each club winning three, but Levin secured the honours by the nairow margin of 120 points to 119.
