WHOLE SCHEME OFFERED TO PRIME MINISTER
NELSON, 'Nov, 24. "T was most interested to read of the Prime Minister 's announcement that he had adopted the National Party 's share farming scheme for settliirg young farmers on the land without inifval Capital," said tlie leader of the National Party, Mr. S. G. Holland, when addressing Nelson eleetors on Saturday night. "Our scheme goes a good deal further than Mr. Frasei' 's announcement and 1 would strongly advise him to adopt the whole of our policy plank because the portion he omitted is reallv the best part of it. The part I refer to as having be'en omitted by the Prime Slinister is, first ly, that settlement must be at the productive value and no more and, secondly, that the income from the sale of farm produce should he divided under five headings as follow: — (1) To maintain the farmer and hjs family; (2) to pnv for seeds, manu'res, fertiliserS and linio; (3) rates, .taxes and insurance; (4) maintenance of the farm but not for stock replacements; (5) for ca]>ita] repavment. If ATr. Fraser Wi!l add that to his announcement, plus the freehold to the settler, he will have the finest land settlement scheme yet offered the people of New Zealand and we of the National Party do not raise the sh'ghtest objection — because he got the idea from us. As I have so often saixl, " added Mr. Holland, " what does it . matter who thinks these things biit so long as tlicyj-fice sound and for The good of New-Zettli&d as a whole? " Mr. Holland waa given- an enthusiastie recepfion by a large audience which filled the Theatre Royal with an overfiow on to the street.
